The moon from 470 miles. 20 febr 1965. A photograph of the moon's surface transmitted by the American Ranger 8 mooncraft from an altituede of 470 miles above the moon, seven minutes before impact. The large crater in the centre of the picture is Delambre, 32 miles in diameter. North is at the top when the small, deeper crater is at lower left. The photograph was one of several released by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, on Februari 21. NAP.
