The moon from five miles. A photograph of the moon's surface transmitted by the American Ranger mooncraft from an altitude of five miles above the moon, seconds before impact. This relatively smooth section of the surface of the Sea of Tranquility measures 4000 by 3000 feet. North is at top when the deepest and brightest of the small craters is at lower left.
