Moon from 2,400 feet. A photograph of the moon's surface transmitted by the American Ranger 8 mooncraft from an altitude of 2,400 feet, 0.4 seconds before impact in the Sea of Tranquility. It was the spacecraft's penultimate photograph, and shows an area of 400 feet by 300. The smallest crater shown is about five feet in diameter. North is at top when the black line is on the left.
