Messingen planetarium (doorsnede bovenplaat 22.5 cm) op samenklapbare drievoet, met 6 planeten aan stangen; hierop kunnen ook worden gemonteerd tellurium (waarin aardglobe Cary, doorsnede 8 cm) en lunarium.De firma Jones zette in de jaren 1790 de productie en distributie van dit soort planetaria c.a. voort nadat George Adams ze jarenlang had gemaakt. Vgl. het sterk vergelijkbare instrument, gesigneerd Adams met Adams globe, en tevens voorzien van Uranus en twee aparte hulpstukken (Jovarium en Saturnium), in Teylers Museum. De datering is mede ontleend aan de inscriptie op de trommel: "A table of the principal affections of the planets" is gegeven voor "Anno 1794". De maten zijn afhankelijk van montage. Opgegeven is max. hoogte en grootste diameter (dus incl. Saturnus). Op de globe is de naam CARY in de aanhef van de cartouche, overplakt met JONES, zoals in de geciteerde signatuur. De globe zelf dateert van 1791 (zie van der Krogt, CAR 1). Er is het een en ander bijgemaakt, zie oude kaart met uitgebreidere beschrijving. NB: check: op depot nog onderdelen die hier (wellicht) bij horen.

Planetariums were the best conceivable aids for understanding the solar system. Phenomena like eclipses of the sun and moon and the change of the seasons now seemed quite obvious. In the late 18th century this educational, but costly toy was obtainable form the better instrument-makers. Special sections such as the earth-moon system were sometimes sold seperately.
