Browsing Our Collection Online
Rijksmuseum Boerhaave is the Dutch National Museum for the History of Science and Medicine. You can search the complete collection, both the objects on display in the museum and those kept in storage. The collection database offers basic information; we continually work to maximise the availability of information.
The complete collection of Rijksmuseum Boerhaave comprises over 35,000 objects, 20,000 prints and photographs, 6,400 book prints and some 25,000 letters (pre-1975 letters retrieved from our archives of scientists; letters after 1975 are kept in the archive and can be searched through the book catalogue)

By making its collection available online, Rijksmuseum Boerhaave offers the general public and researchers the use of texts and images from the collection database for their own purposes. There are photographs available of more than 90% of the collection. They can be downloaded for free in low resolution (96 dpi), which is expected to be sufficient for most users. Should you require images in a higher resolution for publication, you can order these by sending an email to: collectie@rijksmuseumboerhaave.nl. If you intend to use the image(s) in a publication, you are requested in all cases to credit us as “Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, Leiden", also listing the photographer’s name. Please Help Us Improve the Information We Provide
Rijksmuseum Boerhaave constantly strives to improve its documentation. Errors are of course known to creep in at times in any large collection, and we would therefore welcome help from the public and researchers. If you have any remarks or suggestions relating to a part or parts of our collection, please send an email to: collectie@rijksmuseumboerhaave.nl. Your information will be used by our documentalists to improve object descriptions. Thank you in advance!
